A good week for film buffs ahead. Palate Palette will be screening "Earthlings", a documentary about humanity's absolute dependence on animals. Despite our reliance on animals, the documentary also showcases how we often abuse and exploit animals for profit. It is narrated by Joaquin Phoenix with music by Moby. The Da Huang Indie Film Series continues as well with Tan Chui Mui's "Love Conquers All", and a new Malaysian local short entitled "The Value of my Sanity" will have its exclusive premiere at the Annexe on Friday, with performances by Estrella, Yuna and Otam.
Music lovers should not feel neglected as there are tons of related gigs and events to take note of this week. Liven up a Monday evening at the Lee Cooper presents Brit Monday event where you will see performances by Meet Uncle Hussain, The Times, They Will Kill Us All, Bittersweet and a DJ set by Bunga of Twilight Actiongirl. On Friday, Heineken presents Impulse: A Junk Music Project will host Filipino band, Drip and local artistes like M, The Hoo and Altered Image.
Not forgetting, Butterfingers is launching their much anticipated album, "Kembali" on the 24th! Come to the launch to see them perform new material off it. For the nostalgic, Jeff Timmons form 98degrees is scheduled to make a stop at Planet Hollywood as part of his promo tour for his new album (he has one?).
On the arts scene, edgy play "After Ours" debuts on Thursday. As the first in the three-part Curious Residency series, the play is directed by Helena Foo and revolves around several different couples and their conversations after sex. Shocking, but really the play delves deeper by trying to unravel the complexities of today's relationships.
Finally, Nicky C is launching his fourth album entitled "Retroelectro" on the 23rd. It features a remix of DJ Gabriel's "Omie" and one of the tracks, "Seasons", has been remixed and will be officially released by Gatecrasher UK's resident DJs Nick Riley & Andy Durrant through their label Nu Breed UK. Come and join the party and get a taste of his latest craftmanship.
