Despite dwelling in the stagnantly deteriorating Avenue K, Lush Icon ironically projects a fashion forward fare. Within its enveloped location, it stands awkwardly with clean, angular cuts of white modernity and sophistication, and a touch of femininity in a plush lavender feature wall.

Organised racks of high-end labels of the likes of Karen Walker, Dogeared Jewelry and Hansel neatly frame the perimeter of the boutique, with little else in decoration. With a chic minimalist store that would not be out of place on KLCC’s designer ground floor, Lush Icon is surprisingly an extremely personal venture shared by two sisters, Rachel and Pooi Ching Khiew, and is supervised by their mother. “Mum’s our finance controller; without her, I’d spend all our money unwisely,” Rachel admits.

And considering sibling rivalry is a perpetual norm, throwing sisters with very different styles into a fashion business venture can’t be the healthiest thing. But the Khiew sisters have successfully found equilibrium. “We do have different tastes; Pooi Ching is more sophisticated and ladylike, while I’m more unpredictable, but we combine and neutralise our styles into each label we bring over.

In finding this balance, our pieces are universally wearable, but at the same time, individually distinct. Despite having the random varied opinions, we always discuss them through. We make sure we keep at a healthy direction, a far cry from our younger days of fighting like cats and dogs.”

With the right priorities in check, and just the right balance of styles, Lush Icon offers an assortment of international couture titbits that are hard to resist. This includes the Spanish Jordi Labanda, and Nice Day & Nice Things, Singapore’s Hansel, Karen Walker, Australian Tribu accessories and Californian chic Dogeared Jewelry. Retail therapy never felt this good, or family-centric.
