The Bakery At Mercato

Posted on 23 July 2008

Though it is overwhelmingly surrounded by the stalls of the Food Republic-as well as the many restaurants on Pavilion's lower floor-the bakery at Mercato still remains one of the best lunch spots for those looking for something quick, light and decently priced.

The Valley Girl: Where Comics Meet Reality

Posted on 29 July 2008

I'm a huge fan of comics. In most of my social circles that’s looked upon as either really cool, or really geeky. With other comic book fans, I sit for hours discussing themes and role-playing about whom we could be in real life based on our personal attributes. I've been told that I somehow represent the duality in the She-Hulk, timid in most situations, but not to be messed with when angry.

Focus Focus: The Wayang of the Times

Posted on 29 July 2008

I had a wonderful chance to visit Solo, Indonesia recently for a research trip to look at what was happening in contemporary Solo in the world of wayang kulit. It was a wonderful experience, and made me think a lot about how we're looking after our intangible heritage, and how we (dis?)connect with all that has been left with us by our forebears.

A lot can be revealed through the dynamics of a symbiotic relationship, a relationship where one can’t live without the other. Most of you, if you know me at all, know me from the song I wrote many years ago. In this song I wrote about a city, one that had captivated me in so many ways that not even a song could rightly express. People asked me why I came here, why Malaysia? And being that they still ask me that question, I’m quite happy to go into a degree of detail in this article that you may not get if you caught me on the street or in the club.
